China Trade Promotion Business on a New Historical Beginning (1)

On October 18, the opening session of the 19th CPC National Congress was held at the Great Hall of People in Beijing. Jiang Zengwei, Chairman of the CCPIT who has held party membership for 46 years, is one of the 2,338 congress members. He has experienced the great journey of China’s opening-up and reform initiative, and been involved in the planning and organization of foreign trade business. He has also witnessed the rising influence of China in the global economy. Under the leadership of the CPC, China’s trade promotion business has been reaching new achievements and entering a new phase of development.

“The CCPIT will deeply study the important spirits of Xi Jinping’s speeches and his new concepts, thoughts and strategies of the governance of China. The CCPIT will firmly implement the arrangements by the CPC and the State Council to serve for the great cause with high political commitments and responsibility. It has become an important channel that allows the CPC and central government to reach people, enterprises and groups of trade industries, a platform for trade and economic cooperation of the business industry and a strong power to advance opening-up economic development and services,” Jiang Zengwei said during an interview. With the holding of the 19th CPC National Congress, the CPC and China’s socialist development will enter a new phase of development. The CCPIT will also arrive at a new historical starting point, and strive to promote the opening-up strategy to a higher level.

Q1: Xi Jinping said in his work report at the 19th CPC National Congress that the Chinese people will stand tall with great pride and spirit in the world. The CCPIT has been involved in the organization and participation of many foreign trade events, and you have been accompanied with the CPC and national leaders to many activities. Do you feel that China’s status and influence are growing fast?

A1:  In the past few years, I was able to accompany the CPC and national leaders to participate in many foreign trade events. It occurred to me that China’s status in the world in rising markedly and its influence is becoming more widespread. China’s discourse power in the world economic governance is improving. Xi Jinping’s Belt and Road Initative is the most popular and promising public good in the world. China has been playing to its foreign diplomacy strength and playing host to the APEC Summit, the G20 Hangzhou Summit, the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, the BRICS Xiamen Summit and many other important events. It has achieved a series of innovative accomplishments and contributed Chinese wisdom and solutions to the world economic growth and governance.

 

Q2: The report of the 19th CPC National Congress mentions the role played by the above international meetings in the promotion of world economic governance. The CCPIT has been involved in the holding of these events and organization of Chinese business and industry representatives. In your opinion, how will Chinese enterprises involve in global economic governance through these platforms?

A2:  In recent years, Chinese enterprises have been accelerating their pace in overseas business expansion. Their enthusiasm, capabilities and role of involvement in global economic governance has been improving. The CCPIT has been playing to its own strength and promoting Chinese business industries to contribute to global economic governance through industry events and international organizations under the framework of multilateral mechanism like G20, APEC, BRICS Summit and Asia-Europe meeting. This has transformed the role of Chinese business industries from onlooker to participant, and increased their discourse power in the global economic governance.

For example, we organized 156 Chinese enterprises to participate in taskforce groups in the 2016 B20 summit and recommended 15 business leaders to take the position of chairman and co-chair of taskforce groups. Chinese business industries participated in the discussion actively, and raised policy recommendations, many of which were later accepted by the G20 Summit report. The contribution of Chinese business industries has won the recognition of the international community. Also, we organized more than 500 Chinese business leaders to participate into this year’s BRICS summit. Twenty of these business leaders participated in the discussion session of the forum to explain and promote the views of Chinese business industries. The dual system of government and business industries to involve into the global economic governance has achieved great successes. The world business industries have been realizing that world economic development is increasingly dependent on China, and China will play a more important role in multilateral cooperation and global economic governance.
